What is the metric?
Percent of Residents Who Have Depressive Symptoms (Long Stay)
What does the metric mean?
The measure reports the percentage of long-stay residents who have had symptoms of depression during the 2-week period preceding the target assessment date.
How do we calculate the metric?
The Numerator is the number of long-stay residents with a selected target assessment on which any of the following conditions are true:
The resident interview reports little interest/pleasure in doing things at least half of the time in a 2 week period OR reports that the resident has felt down, depressed or hopeless at least half the time in a 2 week period. Additionally the resident’s total severity score in the interview must indicate the presence of depression.
The staff assessment reports little interest/pleasure in doing things at least half of the time in a 2 week period OR reports the resident feeling down, depressed or hopeless at least half the time in a 2 week period. Additionally the resident’s total severity score in the assessment must indicate the presence of depression.
The Denominator is all long-stay residents with a selected target assessment except those with exclusions.
Exclusions include:
The resident is comatose or comatose status is missing on the target assessment
Any of the MDS items necessary for calculating the numerator are missing from the target assessment.
