1. What is the metric?

Percent of Low Risk Residents Who Lose Control of Their Bowel or Bladder (LS)

  1. What does the metric mean?

The measure reports the percent of long-stay residents who frequently lose control of their bowel or bladder.

  1. How do we calculate the metric?

The Numerator is the number of Long-stay residents with a selected target assessment that indicates frequent or constant incontinence of the bladder or bowel

The Denominator is the number of all long-stay residents with a selected target assessment, except those with exclusions.

Exclusions for this metric include Residents satisfying any of the following conditions:

  1. The target assessment is an admission assessment or a PPS 5-day assessment

  2. The resident is not in the numerator and bowel continence OR bladder continence are missing from either assessment

  3. Residents who have any of the following high-risk conditions:

    1. Severe cognitive impairment

    2. Total dependence for bed mobility

    3. Total dependence for transfer

    4. Total dependence for locomotion inside the unit

  4. Resident does not qualify as high risk AND

    1. C0500 = [99, ^, -] AND

    2. 4.2. C0700 = [^, -] OR C1000 = [^, -] on the target assessment.

  5. Resident does not qualify as high risk AND

    1. G0110A1 = [-] OR

    2. G0110B1 = [-] OR

    3. G0110E1 = [-]

  6. Resident is comatose or comatose status is missing on the target assessment

  7. Resident has an indwelling catheter or indwelling catheter status is missing from the target assessment

  8. Resident has an ostomy or ostomy status is missing from the target assessment
