1. What is the metric?

Percent of Residents Who Used Antianxiety or Hypnotic Medication (Long Stay)

  1. What does the metric mean?

This measure reports the prevalence of antianxiety or hypnotic medication use (long stay) during the target period.

  1. How do we calculate the metric?

    1. The Numerator is the number of long-stay residents with a selected target assessment where the following condition is true:

      1. Antianxiety medications were received (N0415B1 = [1]), or

      2. Hypnotic medications were received (N0415D1 = [1]).

    2. The Denominator is all long-stay residents with a selected target assessment, except those with exclusions.

    3. Exclusions include:

      1. The resident did not qualify for the numerator

      2. MDS items for the numerator are missing on the target assessment (N0415B1 = [-] or N0415B1 = [-]).

      3. The resident’s life expectancy is less than 6 months

      4. Resident is in hospice care
