1. What is the metric?

Percent of Residents Who Were Physically Restrained (Long Stay)

  1. What does the metric mean?

This measure reports the percent of long-stay nursing facility residents who are physically restrained on a daily basis.

  1. How do we calculate the metric?

    1. The Numerator is the number of long-stay residents with a selected target assessment that indicates daily physical restraints.

Physical restraints are classified as:

  1. Trunk restraint used in bed

  2. Limb restraint used in bed

  3. Trunk restraint used in chair or out of bed

  4. Limb restraint used in chair or out of bed

  5. Chair prevents rising used in chair or out of bed

  1. The Denominator is all long-stay residents with a selected target assessment except those with exclusions.

  2. Exclusions - any resident with a target assessment missing information on all five types of restraints.
